As the current administration moves to consolidate power and unravel our democracy, CDEF recognizes the pivotal role the U.S. military will play in preserving civil institutions. Currently, the most credible threat is the repurposing of our military to silence dissent and intimidate opposition. To counter this, we are strategically engaging service members, military families and recently discharged veterans to create conditions for aligned civic action. To build durable grassroots power and prepare for potential escalations, we are establishing regional organizing hubs near key military bases and installations housing the units most likely to be deployed domestically. These hubs will anchor civic education efforts, build rapid response capacity, and support deeper organizing and leadership development among the military populations.
