CDEF has launched a multi-pronged, national campaign to educate veterans, service members, military families and the general public about this administration’s ongoing plans to lay off over 30,000 VA employees. Our goal is to reverse these efforts and protect the integrity of the VA healthcare system. In early July, after a months-long sustained campaign led by CDEF, the administration announced it was cutting 30K jobs as opposed to the 80K they previously promised—clear evidence that our sustained pressure is working. Now is the time to ramp up our efforts and ensure all Americans understand the dangers of any cuts to the VA and the undue burden they would place on rural hospitals and the already faltering private healthcare system. To support this work, we developed an innovative district look up tool that allows veterans anywhere in the country to see how these changes would impact both their own care and local community hospitals that would have to bear the brunt of the cuts. The tool also equips users with the tools needed to take action and connect directly with their representatives about the proposed cuts.
