Veterans Power America (VPA) trains and organizes veterans to build trust and counter opposition to renewable energy projects, while mobilizing them to develop and lead coalitions that advocate for workforce solutions that create and maintain quality jobs. VPA Lead Organizers in Arizona, Nevada, and Pennsylvania and our Climate Policy Analyst in North Carolina build partnerships with community-based organizations, academic institutions, and clean energy developers to create pathways for underrepresented communities–including women, people of color, immigrants, and rural populations–to access newly created clean energy jobs. By centering these communities in our advocacy, we aim to build diverse coalitions that can advance policies ensuring equitable wages, availability of workforce training, and long-term career prospects. These complementary campaigns for workforce development and clean energy siting leverage the veteran voice in our state-based model to emphasize the resilience, economic benefits, and national energy security that comes with renewable energy. Veterans serve not only as beneficiaries of these policies but also as trusted messengers capable of uniting disparate political and social groups. Their experiences with teamwork and leadership, combined with their moral authority and credibility, make them uniquely situated to advocate for inclusive workforce development programs that specifically uplift historically marginalized communities.
